Manitoba’s MYOPIC “Leadership”

In response to Jim Car’s ‘colonial concept of “development”  WFP 11.4.13
Jim Carr, president of the Business Council of Manitoba, starts his column As province goes south, look north’ - WFP 11.4.13, with inspiring rhetoric about Manitoba’s future.  I heard Carr speak a month ago and he still seems to be locked into a last century concept of exploitation of resources and people.  Of course his words - “Developing the north’s resources will not be possible without full partnership with the people who live there, mostly aboriginals..” are very nice, but then he continues on and on about ‘development’ in the same colonial mindset that has done nothing in the long run for either Manitoba or its people.   Read the rest of this entry »

“Our Courts have become a CIRCUS !

The Shindlemans have chosen their lawyer very astutely. – WFP ‘Gag order..’  9.4.13
After all last week Max Tapper, the Mayor’s representative successfully created a “circus like atmosphere” (Bart Kives WFP) that distracted Queen’s Bench Justice Brenda Keyser from dealing with the actions of Mayor Katz in a trial (as decided by a previous judge who ruled there was enough evidence to do just that) and instead had her  focusing on the complainant’s misunderstanding of the difference between answering questions about the rumours of a settlement honestly, rather than surreptitiously as a lawyer or politician would do.   Read the rest of this entry »

Circus at City Hall – Goes to Court

The Editor

Wpg. Free Press

Dear sir:
Today in room 128 of the Law Courts,  Sam Katz’s lawyer, Mr Tapper,  proceeded to amuse the gallery with his   attempts to derail legal proceedings with erroneous arguments and diversionary tactics, and at one point allowed that he would prefer the court found him “stupid” and agreed with his arguments, rather than agreed with Mr David Matas’s balanced and assiduously prepared arguments underlining the merits of Mr. Chan’s application to have the conflict of interest legislation applied to the mayor. WFP Editorial – Just the tip of the iceberg!

RE: Editorial ‘Cookies for you’  27.3.13
Bravo for listing some of the obvious and unfortunate evidences of the corruption at City Hall.  The first definition of ‘ CORRUPT’ is  ROTTEN; the second is DEPRAVED; and the third WICKED.  Only then does the ‘influenced by bribery’ enter the definition.  While there is yet irrefutable evidence of bribery, there is ample evidence that much of what is happening to our city is the result of the corrupt atmosphere of ‘deal making’, entitlement, and arrogance. Bullying at the government level – sign of fascism!

Jian, (host of “Q” on CBC)

Today’s Intro … ‘New rules for archivists and librarians’, followed by the wonderful discussion with the author of the book on Bullying, has made me jump out of my car and run to my computer.
WOW!  FANTASTIC!…

Bullying has to do with the wielding of power to control, disempower and limit the value of others.  One of its most identifiable aspects is lack of respectful discourse, another is the implied and sometimes clear threats. (as in the excerpt you read from the new legislation about Archives and libraries) Read the rest of this entry »

Wpg. City of Dreams suffering a 35 year nightmare!

The Editor

Winnipeg Free Press
Dear sir,
In his ‘first column’ for View From The West, Chris Rose says-  ”Vancouver…has always been a bit of a dreamer”.  Unfortunately Rose has inadvertently identified the cause of Winnipeg’s urban problems…loss of the ability to dream, or to be more correct, loss of any visionary leadership. Thinkers Conference Feb 21-23 HOPES & WORRIES

The “Thinkers Conference”  Worries & Hopes

I have great ‘HOPES’ this will be an historic moment in Manitoba history.

However, I also have serious ‘worries’ about the premises upon which the conference seems to be based, and therefore the overall  prognosis for real Progress.

Hopefully, by sharing this essay I will help empower those attending to approach the conference with ‘intention’ and a mindset that will empower us all to endeavor to make a great success of our time together Read the rest of this entry »
